Itchington’s 2nd string had a run out with a view to League action starting next weekend and on winning the toss skipper Dave Buchholz had no hesitation in inviting their hosts to bat on a green tinged wicket.
Early strikes from Wood (6-2-13-1) and Franks (8-0-14-3) gave Itchington the advantage before Pettifer (16) and Smail (37) rebuilt the innings with some lusty blows. Spin twins Crosthwaite (8-1-25-2) and Fogarty (4-0-21-2) dismissed them respectively and Hunningham were hanging on at 110-8 after 32 overs as the heavens opened.
Hunningham sportingly declared as an early tea was taken in an attempt to get a game in but after only 5.4 overs of the Itchington reply the heavens opened again to end all hopes of finishing the game. Finch managed to take a wicket (3-0-5-1) in the time available but Itchington’s batsmen were denied time in the middle by the weather.

Itchington collapsed to defeat to their old league rivals on Saturday in their first outing of the season. After deciding to bat first the home side found life difficult against the Itchington seam attack losing wickets at regular intervals with only Chris Cheslin (12) getting to double figures with the board reading 89-7. The visitors policy of given all their bowlers an opportunity with league action pending probably backfired as 2nd teamer Mark Davison showed his class particularly against the slower bowlers and he found a solid ally in youngster Nathan Credington. Together they added 77 before the returning Brian Phillips (7-1-26-2) bowled him for an excellent 92. Credington finished unbeaten on 27 as Leamington totalled 180-8 despite good spells from Neil Hudson, Craig White (9-0-39-2) and Stephen Rawbone.
Itchington were soon up against it with veteran Steve Montgomery only giving away three scoring shots in his first 7 overs. They lost their first wicket at 19 and were 55-4 in the 21st during a good spell from Cheslin, Graham Foster accumulating 28 of those. Brothers Martyn and Stephen Rawbone started to pull things round but the loss of the former for 29 after he played on to Billy Hallet (2-14) and the introduction of Mark Ryan (4-6) saw LI collapse bizarrely from 88-4 to 91 all out in just three overs and a disappointing defeat by 89 runs.
