L.I.C.C. v Great Barr

Published by at 4:10 pm under Friendly,Match Reports,Sunday XI

Played Sunday 11th May

After an impressive first week victory could LI Sunday side continue their winning ways with a victory over a young, eager and very competent Great Barr side?!
Well the answer is . . . . . yes, after losing his first toss of the season skipper Steve ‘Tino’ Chapman’s side were asked to field in what were some extremely hot conditions, having said that the side pulled together and produced a breathtaking display of bowling and fielding to restrict the visitors to 141-8 off their 40 overs.
After a cautious start and the loss of a couple of early wickets Great Barr saw Badra & Quigley take to the crease scoring 30 & 35 respectively and seemingly setting their side a good base to go on and set a healthy target. However great spells of bowling from Aulak (8-1-27-1), Elkerton (8-2-21-2) and both A & L Smith (8-3-18-1 and 5-1-18-2 respectively) saw the afore mentioned top scoring batsmen and 4 of their teammates dismissed for a combined total of 84 runs, leaving the visiting side to struggle to their eventual final total of 141-8.
In reply Itchington’s opener W. Grindal carried on his exceptional Sunday form batting his way through the run chase to an eventual total of 93 not out. With Grindal was A. Jack who played a very sensible innings of 28 keeping the scoreboard ticking and allowing the in form Grindal as much of the strike as possible eventually succumbing bowled Samra with only a smattering of runs left to score. Fittingly it was Grindal who scored the last of his 15 boundaries to see Itchington home with 12 overs to spare.
