Cotswold Hills League – Division 2

Itchington are still finding it tough going after sliding to defeat against long standing opponents Ashorne.
The visitors were given first use of a surprisingly firm pitch and lost a wicket in the 4th over. Skipper Ashworth joined Jack Jones and they added 48 (the largest stand of the match) before the latter was dismissed by Martin Clark for 21.
With Ashworth going well and the board reading 89-2 a big score was in prospect but two quick dismissals followed by Ashworths wicket for an excellent 67 at 123 marked a change in fortune and some tight cricket saw Ashorne end their overs on 154-9 with Andy Wood 3-21, Clark 2-32 and Tom Perks 2-29 the pick of the bowlers.
The home sides early frailties were again exposed against an incisive first 20 overs with the board reading 9-2 and 32-4 with Jones the destroyer in chief with 3-11 off 7 overs.
James Clarke and Martyn Rawbone repaired some of the damage before the latter succumbed for 23 at the start of a 4-15 burst from Whitehead. Clarke was 7th out at 94 for 24 but a battling last wicket stand of 21 between Brian Phillips and Andy Wood saw the final total reach 132 and defeat by 22 runs.
