Long Itchington 1st XI v Chipping Campden
Played Saturday 14th June
Cotswold Hills League – Division 2
Itchington still can’t quite put a complete performance together and were ultimately convincingly beaten against opponents they have yet to defeat in the league.
After electing to bat the home side struggled to get the Campden opening bowlers away and found themselves 46-2 and shortly thereafter 47-5 in the 22nd over with Reason 0-17 and Taylor 3-25 both off their full 10 over stints.
Teenagers Richard Cressey and Tom Perks rallied the innings adding 43 in good time before the latter fell for 11 at 90. The experienced Stephen Rawbone then joined Cressey and good placement and running saw 76 put on in 13 overs before Rawbone was dismissed for 39. A late flurry lifted the total to 181-8 with Cressey unbeaten on 55.
Itchington managed to contain the hard hitting danger man Rose during the Campden reply to the extent he ‘only’ scored 34 when he was second out at 63 in the 16th over. The home side couldn’t quite turn the screw however and too many balls found their way to the boundary via Nicholls (25) and Lewis (61) as Grey with 27 n.o. saw Chippy home with 5 overs and 6 wickets to spare despite 2-31 from Rawbone and 1-31 from another teenager Andy Wood.
