Long Itchington 2nd XI v Henley in Arden 2nd XI
Played Saturday 28th June
Cotswold Hills League – Division 5
Itchington II’s claimed another away day win with a well timed run chase.
After inviting their hosts to bat Neil Hudson (10-0-36-0) and Nick Brooks bowled tight opening spells but only one wicket was taken and Henley consolidated through Yates (21) and German who made 51 both of whom fell to Steve Franks (10-0-45-2). Their good work was backed up by skipper Sampson (21) and Beck (20) but Michael Parsons (9-2-32-2) having his first spell of the season and the returning Brooks decimated the batting line up taking 6 wickets between them. Brooks finishing with a 5 wicket haul (9-1-32-5) to stifle the late innings run gathering and leave Henley finishing on 188-9 when 200+ looked a distinct possibility at one point.
Dave Buchholz (45) and Graham Foster (9) got Itchington off to a solid start with 36 off the 1st 10 overs before Franks joined Buchholz to add 37 for the 3rd wicket.
Franks missed out on a deserved half century falling to catch in the deep for 42 and it was left to Parsons (42 n.o.) and Brooks (22 n.o.) to see Itchington home with a mixture of powerful hitting and quick running between the wickets that saw the game finish in the 39th over.
Sheppard with 2-49 was the most successful Henley bowler as Itchington gained 20 valuable points in their efforts to remain in the hunt for a top 2 finish.
