Itchington came out on top in an ultimately tight encounter against first time visitors Winchcombe and gained revenge for their early season thumping by the same opponents.
After electing to bat the Gloucs side lost Higgins in the 3rd over for 5 (149 less than he scored in the earlier encounter!). Captain Huggett was in belligerent mood reaching 18 before retiring hurt after top-edging a hook into his mouth. Veteran Morris was joined by a youthful 4 and 5 and only 16 runs came from the next 10 overs as 3 wickets fell including the returning Huggett (2 more 4’s in his 26) as the board read 60-4 off 21 overs.
Keylock joined Morris and they added 56 before the Martin Clark’s second spell accounted for Keylock and big hitting Hale in a 3-28 return. Nick Brooks dismissed Morris for a top score 43 as the innings petered out from 136-6 to 149 all out with Brooks finishing with 3-25.
In reply the Itchington innings rocketed away with the Rawbone brothers smashing some wayward bowling with 43 coming off the first 5 overs. Stephen was dismissed for 29 in the 9th over at 53. Experienced spinner Hobbs then applied the brakes as the home side slipped to 58-3 and 78-4. Martyn Rawbone was still in residence however and he and James Clarke added 31 before the former was out for 49. Clarke was 7th out at 123 but late order knocks from Andy Wood (13) and Brian Phillips (10 n.o.) saw Itchington home in a tense finale by 2 wickets.
