Long Itchington 2nd XI v Moreton-in-Marsh 2nd XI
Played Saturday 19th July
Cotswold Hills League – Division 5
Itchington II’s completed a second double of the season in defeating Moreton in Marsh by 35 runs.
Itchington had to concede the toss through lack of numbers due to the intervention of the local constabulary and were invited to bat. Will Grindal continued his excellent form scoring a whirlwind 46 in the 1st 10 overs. The scoring rate then slowed as Pearson (10-4-13-0) and Millard (10-1-41-2) bowled with accuracy and guile and it took an excellent stand of 68 between George Insall (46) and Steve Franks (32 n.o.) to lift the total within touching distance of 200 as Itchington just failed to gain maximum batting points with the innings finishing on 198-8 off 45 overs. Shurmer adding 4 wickets (10-1-44-4) to his compatriot’s earlier good work.
Pearson (16) and Hillard (19) took Moreton to 30 before losing 2 wickets to Zach Aulakh (6-1-31-2). Moreton were keeping up with required rate as Shurmer with double figure contributions from Whitehouse and Parry, who both made 17, but Itchington kept chipping away and none more so than Dave Buchholz (10-1-46-5) who prised out 5 Moreton batsmen for his 1st 5 wicket haul in 14 years to put Itchington in the box seat.
Craig White then returned to finish the innings with 2 wickets in one over (7.4-1-26-2), Shurmer completing a fine all round performance by finishing unbeaten on 73 as Moreton were dismissed for 163.
