Long Itchington 1st XI v Ashorne & Moreton Morrell
Played Saturday 2nd August
Cotswold Hills League - Division 2
Itchington openers were faced with a wet wicket and three short legs after being put in by the home side on Saturday.
Good application however saw Martyn Rawbone and James Clarke put on 64 before the latter was out in the 19th over for 33. A 2nd wicket soon followed but Will Grindal (16) and Alex Jack helped Martyn Rawbone take the score to 151, despite a tight mid innings spell of 1-19 from veteran Colin Reading, before the skipper was 4th out for 80. Jack (26) and George Insall (17) added good late runs as the visitors finished on a competitive 191-6.
The home side were watchful from the start against some tight bowling. Whitehead was first out for 17 at 23. Moon and Ashworth took the total to 65 when Moon fell for 17.
The overs were slipping away as excellent fielding kept the home side shackled. The game was effectively over when Grindal dismissed both Ashworth (40) and the promoted Hendy (25). Ashorne settled for batting practice finishing on a tame 142-5 as LI ultimately won by 49 runs.
