Long Itchington 1st XI v F.I.S.C.C.
Played Saturday 23rd August
Cotswold Hills League - Division 2
Itchington 1st’s finished their home programme in emphatic style thrashing visitors FISSC on Saturday.
The visitors forfeited the toss by arriving late and after being inserted they struggled to get the home bowlers away. They lost their first wicket at 28 in the 11th over and by the 17th over it was 41-2. Skipper Stokes then joined Hazel and together they looked to repair the damage.
Hazel succumbed for 25 to the returning Andy Wood at 81 but Stokes was helped by the lower middle order to add valuable runs. At 146-6 a defendable total was still achievable but the returning 18 year olds Craig White (4-24) and Tom Perks (3-35) blasted out the tail, including Stokes for a well earned 50, for a final all out total of 148.
In reply the Itchington openers survived a searching examination from Smith before blossoming against the change bowlers. 19 year old Will Grindal was particularly effective and sped to his maiden 1st X1 ton (his sixth of the season overall) with the help of six 6’s and ten 4’s finishing on 102 not out. Martyn Rawbone assisted with a scratchy 39 not out as the home got home by 10 wickets with 20 overs to spare.
