Itchington II’s defeat against Leek Wootton saw their hosts crowned deserved champions after an outstanding first season in the CHL.
Wootton batted first with Johnson and Taphouse (31) putting on 93 for the 1st wicket in good time and a large total looked likely. The introduction of father and son combination Steve (10-3-31-2 in his first appearance of the season) and Tom Crosthwaite (10-0-62-2) saw 4 wickets fall including the dangerous Johnson who made an excellent 90 as Itchington clawed their way back into the game.
Skipper Dave Buchholz (7-3-14-4) and youngster Zack Aulakh (5-0-12-1) then knocked over the lower order to restrict Wooton to 192 all out when a much larger total looked likely earlier on.
Itchington’s top order collapsed yet again to 17-4, and it took determined knocks from Steve Franks (14), Steve Chapman (14), Martin Greaves, Zack Aulakh (10) and Tom Crosthwaite (14) to delay Leek Wooton’s celebrations until the 34th over when they finally succumbed to 76 all out.
Brookes (8-4-14-2), Cox (7-1-20-3) and youngster Bailey (3-0-9-2) doing the damage.
