Long Itchington 2nd XI v The Lenches
Played Saturday 16th August
Cotswold Hills League - Division 5
Itchington II’s inability to beat the sides in the top half of the league consigned them to defeat against The Lenches.
Having conceeded the toss due to lack of numbers The Lenches were invited to bat on a drying wicket and made a confident start through Williams (35) and McNally (35) but the introduction of Tom Perks into the attack saw them both fall in quick sucession as Perks did his best to grab back the initiative with an excellent spell of 10-2-20-5.
The Lenches dug in and lower order contributions from Bart (32), Whitfield (16) and Tyrill (10) saw them reach 177 despite late wickets from Neil Hudson (9-2-26-2).
Itchington’s top order collapsed to 42-4, something that has plagued their season, with only Graham Foster’s 22 making any impression. Tom Perks (20) and Nigel Smith (14) made an effort to repair the damage but after they were dismissed only Steve Chapman (17) and Michael Parsons (12) offering any resistance as White with 4-14 and Bart 2-24 polished off the innings.
