WCB u11 County Quarter Final LICC V Stratford 29/06/09
Under overcast threatening skies LICC won the toss and asked Stratford to bat first, who then cautiously made 261 for 2 wickets (net 251) in 12 overs when the inevitable rain interrupted the game. After half-an-hours break scoring was made more difficult in the wet conditions 4s became 2s and quick singles were risky. Stratford completed their innings at 279 for 2 wickets (net 269) Finlay Hatch top-scored with 15 not out and Ghulam Mohyuddin 10 not out, for Long Itchington Will Davies took 1 -8 and Ben Scoular 1-9 in their 3 overs. In reply LICC were also cautious and only Alexander Bruce with 19 not out showed their normal batting fluency. but when the normally prolific Will Davies and Josh Grimes came to the wicket, our last pair, we still had a good chance to win. Unfortunately at this point Stratford`s bowlers lost control of the greasy ball and bowled several beamers one of which felled Will with a sickening blow to the chest that took several minutes for him to recover. Inevitably LICC came up short at 275 for 6 wickets (net 245) Will Davies losing his wicket twice after his injury for the first time this season. Stratford therefore won by 24 runs and proceed to the semi-final stage.
