29th May 1st Team Match Report – Home Bidford on Avon

Bidford on Avon were the visitors to White Hall Farm for Itchingtons 2nd home game of the season, and as with the first, the rain was falling. Unfortunately it rained only slightly, and the Itchington wickets fell faster.

After a rain delayed start, 40 over’s a side was the format and Nicholls was on the way to his Man of the Match award, as he correctly called tails…Itchington were asked to bat

And bat they didn’t, Foster was first to go after a couple of boundary balls were dispatched and 24 were on the board when he departed. Perks and Cressey also made double figures, but 6 other Itchington players didn’t make double figures.

The visitors bowled well all afternoon, Leyton, Cooper and Wyatt all picked up wickets in their tidy spells, but the stand out performer was that man Nicholls who picked up 5 for 11, in his allotted 9 over’s. Phillips and Clark batting at 10 and 11 put on 32 for the last wicket making 16 and 18 each to lift the total to a well below par 124.

Tea was taken, and Alex was at the helm, Martyn was on the Tea Pot, and Miriam was called in as a late change to clear up….thanks to all involved.

Wickets were the order of the day to give Itchington any chance at all of getting anything out of the afternoon, but they never came. Cleary the experienced Bidford boys were batting for maximum points and who could blame them. They had 41 over’s to see themselves home, and they managed it losing only on wicket.

Richard Cressey bowled a tidy spell of nine over’s, and the Skipper took the only wicket, his 9 over’s going for 24, but the visitors never had to go through the gears, and won in convincing style picking up 21 valuable points and are well in with a chance of promotion.

As for Itchington, 2 points was all that was mustered, and its Catney next week. The home team skipper got the Man of the Match award, but he would have swopped that for a win…….and maybe next week that’s what we will get….we shall see…..

Published by under Match Reports,News

Dunchurch won the toss and asked LICC to bat on a cool spring evening in Dunchurch. The opening over saw Nathan escape a disputed catch decision allowing him and Jamie to put on 68 for the first wicket (Jamie 31).
Nathan retired on 53 and Jack Jobling contributed with 19 to an LICC total of 161 for 6 in 20 overs.LICC took the field for D & B`s innings with only 10 men, after Alex Day retired hurt with a twisted knee injury, but soon had them struggling at 26 for 4. Eventually they reached 107 for 8 in their 20 overs, Callum Burston top-scoring with 32 for Dunchurch, Nathan Hooker 3 for 24 for LICC. So LICC won by 54 runs, special mention must be given to Craig Gaskins who on his debut for LICC hit 2 fine 4s, took 2 catches and his first wicket. Well done Craig.

RDCL u13 League Match LICC v Oakfield 25/05/2010

On a cold spring evening in Long Itchington, the u13s ground out a solid victory against Oakfield.Oakfield batted first and with Jake and Harris bowling well were soon 15 for 4 from 5 overs. Long Itchington then let Oakfield back into the game by dropping 5 catches at least to enable Oakfield to recover to 76 for 8 in their 20 overs. Opener Chris Goodwin scored 19 not out, Jake Butler 4-2-10-3 and Josh Grimes 2-0-8-2 led the way for LICC.In reply LICC soon lost 2 early wickets which meant Sam and Jake had to consolidate and so made heavy weather of the achievable target.
Luckily Josh Thompson was on hand at the end with 2 well struck 4s to see LICC to 77 for 4 in 16 overs. Jake Butler top-scored with 13 not out and Josh 10 not out enabled LICC u13 to maintain their 2 year+ unbeaten run.But catching practise needed next week!!

Match Report – Long Itchington 2nd Team v Ashton under Hill 2nd Team

Long Itchington 2nd X1 versus Ashton Under Hill 2nd X1 May 22nd 2010

On what seemed like the first day of summer LI 2ndX1 entertained AUH 2nd X1 at the Whitehall Farm ground the pitch looked perfect for batting in fact it was a shirt front track whereby some 560 odd runs were to be scored in 82 overs.

LI asked Ashton to take first knock even though temperatures by mid afternoon touched 80 degrees the premise of this decision was the strong LI depth of batting.

It appeared to be a poor decision as the forceful Capaldi (53) and Garland (27) added 70 for the first wicket. All the other batsman got well into double figures and the strong batting line up of the Itchington boys looked like a mountain would be needed to be climbed for a win. The AUH innings closed on 228 for 6 which included 42 extras. All the Li bowlers stuck to task extremely well and were helped by some good catches and fielding notably and excellent run out by Foster from the deep. Bucholz 1 for 45, Chapman 2 for 45, Rawbone 1 for 52, Franks 1 for 42 and the reliable Phillips 0 for 29 off 9 overs all stuck to task.

The LI batsman started well and the openers looked in good touch until a mix up in the running had the unfortunate Rawbone heading back to the pavilion. This did not deter the in form Foster who with Rogers took the score to 95 before Rogers was caught of a leading edge for 24. Smith joined Foster and the partnership changed the game towards a win for the home side when Smith was out the score had jumped to 215 with Smith departing for a hard hit 69 off 52 balls Foster followed for a man of the match innings of 83. Jones and Parsons brought the spoils and a hard earnt 21 points home in the 37th over.
