1st Team Match Report – Home – Blockley 17th July

Itchingtons visitors for the day were Blockley who had lost a couple of games recently, so Itchington were keen to get as many points as possible from the afternoon. The Blockley skipper called correctly and the home side were padding up.

Having batted well in the 2nd Team, in form Foster was joined by regular opener Eadon, who were both asked to give the home team a solid start. After the first 10 over 23 were on the board. Dyer only conceding 4 runs from his first 4 overs.

Drinks were taken at 23 over’s and the openers had moved to 90 without loss, and Itchington were looking to put a large score together. The first wicket fell in the 25th over with the score on 102; with Eadon making another solid 47….he’s getting good at jug avoidance totals!

Foster continued his good from, and fell after making another fine 50. (He also got the Man of the Match award as well so well done to him). Will Grindal came in at number 3, who got off the mark with a 6, road his luck somewhat with a boundary drop early on, and clubbed some massive six’s, on the way to an excellent unbeaten 73. Alex Jack made a run a ball 28 and 250 for 6 was the final score from the allotted 45 over’s.

Will Grindall’s positive type of innings was something the team had been missing, and the skipper is pleased to have him back in the fold after his recent injury problems.

Tea was taken, and the home skipper choose to open the bowling himself, along with Andy Wood. The plan was to bore the visitors, get the run rate out of site, and see what happened

Andy Wood bowled his best spell of the season to date from the Whitehall Farm end. He bowled the dangerous Knight and removed Watson inside his excellent 10 over spell (10-2-20-2.) Clarks 10 over’s bored everyone to death, the scorers only had to add 13 runs to the total for his 10 over’s (10-3-13-0), and at 20 over’s the visitors were almost out of the game.

From here on in, the visitors needed a miracle to win, and with Cressey and Chapman continuing the good work with the ball, the struggling Blockley side changed tack somewhat and batted for points.

For the visitors Mutsaar was the pick of the batsmen with a well put together 61 not out.

Cressey picked up 2 wickets in his 10 over’s as did Chapman, and Itchington wrapped up their 45 over’s conceding 161, and picked up 19 valuable points in the process. Every one put in a solid display, and special thanks must go to Alex Jack who kept wicket in the absence of the injured James Clark. He took an excellent catch standing up,  and generally kept very well considering he was a stand in, so thanks to him……a little selection headache!.

With Temple Grafton’s all out for 28 raising a few eyebrows, its bottom side Woodbourne next week, and Itchington must continue this form to the last game of the season to avoid a possible relegation battle.

Thanks to everyone for the efforts this week…

Martin
