Barby U17 v LICC U17
Played 5th May 2009
A fine first win for Long Itch U17s. On a newly laid artificial wicket Long Itch opening bowlers Andy Smith and Charlie Preston proved to be a lively handful for Barby’s openers, frequently passing the edge of the bat. After reducing the home side to 21-2, Kalym (44) and Monzela (27) steadied the Barby ship with a partnership of 62. Late wickets from Newman and Preston (4-0-18-2) slowed any final onslaught, with the home side’s innings ending on 123-4.
The Long Itch run chase started badly, with Andy Smith falling in the first over to a first ball duck. Nathan Hooker (22) and captain Tom Crosthwaite (32) took on the challenge with a stand of 35, and when the former was out, Ben Pratt took the fight on with an excellent 42 not out in the failing light, with the target being reached with 3 overs to spare.
Result – Long Itchington won by 6 wickets.
