LI’s positive attitude throughout generated a winning result in their top of the table clash against local rivals Leamington. Reluctant to start on time (due to an apparently wet square and outfield – it would be as it had been raining!) the match commenced as a 42 over affair.

Alex Jack and Tom Perks punished some early loose deliveries but the youthful home attack began to find their lines and at the half way point the scoreboard only read 67. Perks was dismissed for 32 in the 23rd over with Martyn Rawbone joining the fray. He and Jack seemed to flick the attacking switch whereupon 73 runs were added in 9 over’s either side of a rain break.

Leamington were again reticent about continuing but Zac Grant snared Rawbone and Jack soon after the resumption for 25 and 71 respectively. The remaining 10 over’s brought fun and games as lots of quick (although not always successful) running, wafting of bats and balls finding the boundary saw 83 runs added mainly through an excellent 42 from Will Grindal and 21 from Matt Cox as LI finished with a very respectable 228-6. Grant was the most successful bowler but at a cost with 3-71.

With Leamington needing a revised 201 to win in 37 over’s LI held their nerve after conceding a couple of early boundaries and struck taking three wickets by the 10th over (28-3) with Steve Rawbone accounting for both openers including the dangerous Ainscow. Leamington’s experienced batting line-up still had plenty of big guns but good spells from both Matt Cox (3-42) and Martin Clark (2-30), aided by good ground fielding, saw off Mark Davison (21) and David Lord (17) as the home side slipped to 64-6 and 108-8 including 16 from Grant. Skipper Matt Dale (42) was battling gamely and along with Lawrence (21 n.o.) they achieved additional batting points before the inevitable ending at 152 all out and LI were home by 48 runs.
