On a sunny but windy day Ashorne won the toss and asked the home side to bat first, new Saturday 2nds skipper Graham Foster was fairly happy with this as the track looked to be a good one and the outfield dry and quick.
Openers Foster and Roger Eadon got off to a steady start putting on 108 for the first wicket in 22 overs when Foster was out for 57, a big score looked to be on the cards but 2 quick wickets followed both going for ducks, N Smith steadied the ship with 15 before 2 more ducks left Long Itchington looking at a below par score but a run a ball partnership from S Parsons 18 and D Buchholz 29 lifted the score to 232 for 8 off 45 overs. Eadon finishing top scorer a well compiled 74.
Long Itchington went out to field confident that they could defend their total but poor bowling and fielding was to let them down, after taking 2 early wickets opener Whitehead and number 4 Hussellby took the Itchington bowlers apart scoring 112 and 69 Ashorne reaching the target with 4 wickets and 6 overs to spare.
Special mention must go to an excellent spell of bowling from Steve Franks 10 overs 36 runs 2 wickets and steady Dave Buchholz 7 overs for 32 runs and Jeff Rogers (new career as a bowler) 3 overs 16 runs 2 wickets.
