Long Itchington Cricket Club

On a bright but breezy night in Long Itchington the u15s took on Oakfield in a League fixture. LICC lost the toss (again) and were asked to bowl. Good tight bowling by Jake and Jamie soon put Oakfield under pressure and after 13 overs they were struggling at 41 for 5 with only Chris Goodwin (18) offering real resistance for Oakfield. All LICC outfield players were then given a bowl and Joel Othen-Lawson bowled the over of his life -a triple wicket maiden of slow left-arm spin as Oakfield with some late hitting by their skipper Sherwyn Fernando (21*) achieved 80 for 8 in their 18 overs. Joel 1-1-0-3, Jamie 4-0-4-2 for Long Itchington.
In reply LICC lost Joel early but Jake and Jamie after early scares were batting well and cruised to a comfortable winning target of 86 for 1 in 9.5 overs. Jake Butler 44*( 6x 4s, 2x6s), Jamie Breakwell 38* (1×4, 4x6s) Tom Marshall 3-1-6-1 bowled well for Oakfield. So LICC won by 9 wickets.

A young u15 side took on Rugby away for their first game of the season, and gave a very encouraging performance.
Rugby won the toss and batted first on a windy bright evening in Rugby.Jack Jobling took a good early wicket, but LICC allowed their skipper, Monty Barhey, too many chances as he scored a belligerent 50 (retired). He was dropped three times and survived an easy run out possibility early on to give Rugby a total of 119 for 1 wicket in their 18 overs. After a dreadful start, with both openers going for ducks, Jake Butler (39) and Billy Bowman-Shaw (14) steadied the ship but unfortunately LICC were always behind the required run rate and finished 9 runs short on 110 for 5 in their 18 overs. Poor bowling by both sides produced far too many wides and showed how rusty both teams are. Lots to work on this Sunday !!
